Being choosy about foods to eat because of your braces? Don’t worry because you’re not alone!

Having braces on your teeth signifies that the wearer wants to achieve a straight teeth and a terrific smile, however, in order reach this end, wearers must hold up their end of the bargain by considering foods to avoid that can cause broken wires or brackets. These can not only be painful, but can actually prolong the treatment. In other words, break the rules and you could be stuck with your braces for even longer.

Other foods are hard to clean and should be eaten only if you’re prepared to take the time to clean your braces whilst others can lead to the formation of tooth decay that should be eaten in moderation or only if your teeth are cleaned quickly afterwards.

Here are the foods you can’t eat with braces:

  • Apples: Don’t bite into a whole one! Cut it into thin wedges first.
  • Bagels and hard rolls: Convicted culprits of bending wires and loosening brackets.
  • Beef jerky: Your braces don’t stand a chance against this leathery food.
  • Bubble gum and other gummy candies: Trust us, there’s nothing worse than spending hours picking gum from your braces.

Foods You Can't Eat With BracesCandy canes or suckers, caramelized candies and chewy candies: Can lodge beneath brackets and wires, leading to tooth decay. Like bubble gum, these are messy.
