Urine leakage isn’t a disease but a symptom. It happens when the bladder has loss its control of holding the urine, by the time you cough, sneeze,laugh or even perform exercise. It can be a symptom of many different health problems, ranging from cancer to kidney stones to an enlarged prostate.

However, in some cases, it may result in a total loss of the bladder’s contents or it may just cause minor leakage. It can also be a natural result of the aging process, since your bladder muscles become weaker as you get older.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, millions of Americans suffer from urine leakage and the condition is more common among women over 50 years of age than on men.

It can be caused by everyday habits, underlying medical conditions or physical problems. Urine leakage, also known as, urinary incontinence is not a disease but it may be a sign that there could be something wrong.

Consider losing weight. Extra body weight puts extra pressure on your bladder. By losing weight, you may be able to relieve some of that pressure and regain your bladder control.

Lastly, there are no drugs that are approved to treat stress urine leakage. But if you have an overactive bladder, your doctor may prescribe a medicine that can calm muscles and nerves.
