9 Alarming Myocardial Infarction Symptoms

According to research, there is about 11% of death in Canada that are caused by Myocardial Infarction and becomes a common condition that around 146,000 people in the UK have MI every year.

What is Myocrdial Infarction?

Myocardial Infarction, or most commonly known as heart attack, is a condition wherein the supply of blood that goes to the heart is blocked. The block is usually a tiny blood clot (thrombus) that forms due to fatty deposits (plaques) that builds up along the inside walls of blood vessels leading to the narrowing of the inner channel (lumen) of the artery.

Arteries that are narrowed by these fatty deposits cannot deliver enough blood to maintain normal function of the parts of the body they supply. 9 Alarming Myocardial Infarction Symptoms

Just like when you have fatty deposits in the arteries of your legs, it will cause a reduced blood flow to the legs. Reduced blood flow to the legs can lead to pain in the legs while walking or exercising, leg ulcers, or a delay in the healing of wounds to the legs.

Who are at risk for developing MI?

Myocardial infarction most likely affects people aged over 50 and it becomes more common with increasing age. It is three times more common in young men than in young women. However, after the menopause, the female hormones no longer protect the heart so the risk is then the same for men and women.

  1. Faintness, weakness and dizziness
  2. Pain in the chest can be felt for 30 minutes or may be longer in crucial cases.
  3. A sudden feeling of chest tightness during the heart attack.
  4. Burning, squeezing, and pressurized sensations in the chest. In more serious cases the pain spreads effecting  the jaw, neck, arms and shoulders.
  5. Nausea and vomiting
  6. Shortness of breath
  7. The heart beat increases very fast
  8. Sweating and anxiety
  9. Light-headedness and blurred vision
